Train, Start Up Screen Animation

This animation was created single-handedly by me. I was tasked with creating a start-up screen for the Steam Deck console, opting to symbolize its power and gravitas through the depiction of a steam train.

I think the strength of this piece is in the train details, a result of extensive time investment in creating and optimizing every intricate aspect to ensure swift and fast rendering. The design combines elements from two distinct trains, enhancing the overall visual impact.

A significant weakness of this piece is the environment which looks rough and not as realistic as the train. It was supposed to be a grass plain, but I switched it to snowy mountains to make it look better. Another weakness that can be improved is the smoke, as I had to use clever angles and timing to make it look realistic.

The idea of this creation stems from wordplay, conceptualizing a steam train as a metaphor for the dominant and powerful Steam platform. This inspiration pushes me to dive deeper into the realms of environments and effects, acknowledging that further study in these areas will enable me to produce more realistic and visually captivating 3D masterpieces.

Showcase Video

This was supposed to be my final outcome for my Animation project that I undertook, and I am quite pleased with my first attempt.

I take pride in this animation for its effective portrayal of the train which guides the viewer through an amazing experience as the perspective dynamically shifts around the locomotive. A noteworthy element that brings me satisfaction is the use of lighting, successfully capturing the atmosphere of a nighttime journey for the steam train. I deliberately chose a night setting because I wanted to underscore Steam's versatility, emphasizing the fact that it will work at any time of the day.

One area that could be improved is the internal camera movement. Acknowledging the slight lack of smoothness in the camera animation during the inward journey, I am committed to making this aspect much better in my future works, prioritizing a seamless and fluid motion to elevate the overall viewing experience.
